
This slightly smoky chilli recipe is made of sausage, bacon and allowed to slowly simmer to perfection in a crockpot for maximal flavor. An Italian and Mexican fusion.
Ingredients
- 1 lb hot italian sausage (may use ground beef or turkey)
- 1 medium onion - chopped
- 4 cloves garlic - chopped
- 2 tbsp chilli powder
- 1 tbsp oregano
- 2 tsp cumin
- 2 strips bacon - sliced thinly - separately baked to a crisp in oven
- 1 14 oz can of chopped/slice tomatoes
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 3 jalapeno peppers
- 3/4 cup mushroom
- 1/2 cup green peppers
- 1/2 cup red peppers
Directions
- Brown whole sausages in pan or in oven.
- Cut sausages into wedges.
- Place into slow cooker.
- Break crisp bacon into small bite sized pieces.
- Place all ingredients into slow cooker.
- Let cook at low for 6 hrs or 3-4 hours on high.
- Garnish with green onions, cilantro, lime if desired.
- Serve over cooked pasta or cornbread if desired.
